How to care for cactus correctly
After a dry wintering, the roots sometimes cannot function normally; first, every few days, we spray the cacti before proceeding with regular watering. In some cacti, the roots are mostly spread near the surface of the earth. Therefore, cacti do not quite fit very small pots. After all, the roots should serve to store water, and in some they become repovidnymi. Such species are particularly sensitive to an excess of moisture and easily rot in this case.
How to care for cactus
They need to properly care, give an earthen mixture with a lot of rough water-permeable parts. Such soils have not too much water-holding capacity, water stagnates in them less. In this regard, beginning cacti lovers often have problems with watering. But it is not so difficult, you only need to learn to carefully observe the plants. During growth, they can get enough water. Watering in this case is necessary when the whole earth - and not only its surface, has dried up, but has not completely dried up.If the substrate is completely dry for some time, then the tender and thin root hairs will die off. Of course, cacti can very quickly form new root hairs, but growth will be slowed down. The most significant growth intensity is observed in the spring or autumn, while in the middle of summer it decreases.
If signs of growth are not noticed, you need to remember the rule: in case of doubt, do not water! It is always more dangerous to have excess water than its lack. This is the main rule of proper care for cacti! This is especially important for winter, when most cacti are completely dry, of course, when the content is cold. Low temperatures for many cacti are necessary for them to bloom in the next growing season.
This cold, but light content is sometimes the greatest difficulty in cacti room culture. Cold, but dark room here is not good. Many cacti, especially those blooming in the spring, and during rest require maximum illumination. Despite the cold wintering, sometimes you can not achieve flowering cacti. The reason is that in these species we are dealing with young plants that have not yet matured to the flowering stage.Certain cacti, such as melocactus, cephalotsereus, and espostose, form flowers only in a specific flowering zone, it is called cephalia. This zone is covered with thick, mostly yellow or brown hairs or bristles, which sit like a cap on the top or on the side, sometimes in column-shaped cacti (the so-called lateral cephaly).
Flowers can be formed either in the apex region or at the base of the stem of a cactus, this is an important feature in the determination. They are not long stored in the plant, sometimes only a few hours. Some cacti have a peculiar feature - to bloom at night, because in the conditions of their homeland they are pollinated by nocturnal butterflies or bats. The flowers evaporate a lot of moisture, so for a long time the plant can not afford to allow such luxury.
Thanks to the spines, many cacti are very attractive and not in a flowering state. They are not very demanding. It is enough to remember the conditions in which cacti live, for example, in the mountains, and it will become clear why they should be brought up quite tough. Many species are useful significant differences in night and daytime temperatures, they give stronger spines and more abundant flowering. When buying plants it is recommended to choose species with particularly beautiful spines.
