How to set up Wi-Fi in Windows 7?
If you have a laptop with Windows 7, it is convenient to connect it to WiFi in order to use the Internet anywhere in the apartment, in a cafe, at work, and in general anywhere, without depending on the network cable. It’s not at all difficult to do, and in this article we will explain how to set up WiFi in Windows 7.
Connection with ready settings
Let's start with a simple - let's set up a connection to WiFi with standard settings. Make sure the WiFi adapter is turned on, and click on the wireless icon in the system tray, next to the clock. A list of all available WiFi networks in the district will open, and for each of them the signal level is shown: the more green tick marks, the more stable the connection will be.
Select the desired network and click the "Connect" button. If you want your computer to automatically connect to the selected network when you turn on WiFi without pressing any additional buttons, check the Connect automatically box.
If the network is password protected, enter it and click OK. If the network does not have password protection, it will be marked with an exclamation mark, and when connected, you will be warned that the data transmitted through this network can be intercepted. It is better not to go to an online bank, for example, through an unsecured wireless network.
How to configure WiFi manually
It is possible to set all the settings of the wireless connection and manually. This method is especially relevant if the network is hidden for security reasons and is not displayed in the general list of available ones, but you know the name by which you can connect to it.
Right-click on the network icon in the system tray and select "Network and Sharing Center". In the window that opens, click the "Configure a new connection or network" link. In the next window, select the option "Connect to a wireless network manually" and click "Next."
Specify the network name, select the type of security and encryption. In most cases, the standard settings can not be changed - it is proposed to use AES and WPA2, because this method provides higher protection against attacks on the network from the outside and allows you to connect to it using a convenient password - which, by the way, should be entered in the Security Key field . For security reasons, you can check the “Hide symbols” box so that the password cannot be peeped from behind your shoulder.
If you want to continue to connect to this network automatically, check the box “Run this connection automatically” and click “OK”. After that, the computer will connect to the WiFi with the specified settings.
In the future, the connection parameters can be edited if necessary. To do this, click on the icon of the wireless connection and right-click on the desired network. Select "Properties". The password and type of protection are changed on the Security tab, and on the Connection tab, you can disable automatic connection to this network if you for some reason no longer need it. Set new options, and then click “OK” to apply the changes.
