What do proteins eat?
The squirrel is a small, fluffy rodent living in trees. These animals live in almost all forests of Russia. In winter, squirrels do not migrate to warmer places, but do not hibernate, so they have to eat what they have saved up since the fall. These forest mammals love to live in city parks, because people feed them there. So what do squirrels eat?
Forest squirrel feed
Food protein is very diverse and depends on the season and habitat. Their main food is vegetation rich in proteins. These are fruits of coniferous trees - spruce, pine, fir, cedar and larch. In the more southern forests where oaks grow, squirrels feed on acorns and nuts. In addition, these rodents love to eat berries and mushrooms. Very funny squirrels make stocks for the winter: nuts, fruits of trees and grains are buried in the ground or hidden in hollows and crevices of trees. Later, they cannot find much of their reserves, and seeds buried in the ground germinate. It helps to save the forest. Mushrooms squirrels are planted on thin branches of trees and dried, than other forest dwellers sometimes use.
Contrary to popular belief, squirrels can also feed on other animals - chicks (or eggs), lizards, frogs and small rodents, insects. The hardest time for animals is late winter and early spring, when there are almost no stocks left. Then squirrels feed on tree buds and bark.
