What is a minus?
One of the main operations that we use everywhere is subtraction, whether it is the calculation of change in the store, the cost of the purchase or the records in mathematical calculations and musical works. Everywhere there is a minus. Consider what is a minus in a general sense, as well as in specific areas of knowledge.
Minus is a Latin word that is derived from the word minus, meaning "less, less." Most often, the basic definition is a mathematical one: a minus is a sign or a mathematical symbol in the form of a dash "-". In this case, it is either a sign of subtraction between two numbers, or it shows a negative number, for example, -5.
Also, minus is used in printing. But here the features of its execution, that is, printing, are more important. When we recruit and type a subtraction operation between two numbers, we need to put spaces between the subtraction sign and numbers, thus separating the minus from the numbers. If the minus refers to a negative number, then the set of numbers and signs is carried out without a space. This is necessary so that the sign and the number do not break up during the transfer. In the case of the formula, this is allowed.
Minus can be found on the computer keyboard and in programming. It looks like a hyphen. In typographical practice, the exact proportions of the mark must be observed.
Often it can be noted that the music industry also uses such a notion of "minus". Here it can mean a recording without a voice.
